Staff Nurse Gertrude Gordon WILKINSON, 1885 – 1975

Connection to the Hunter Valley – Staff Nurse Gertrude Wilkinson was born in Singleton and trained at Wallsend District Hospital, graduating c.1916.

Service – Australian  Army Nursing Service (AANS)

Service location – Gertrude embarked for service in Salonika on 14 October 1918.  However, the ship was recalled due to the cessation of hostilities on the Balkan front.  Gertrude disembarked in Fremantle and was admitted to hospital sick.  She later returned to Sydney and served at No 4 Australian General Hospital at Randwick until she was discharged.
