Connection to the Hunter Valley – Staff Nurse Sarah Avaline Mears was born at West Maitland. She is named on the honour roll of Maitland Congregational Church. Eva’s sister, Minnie Victoria Mears, also served overseas during the War.
Training and experience – Eva trained at Coast Hospital Sydney (Kirsty Harris, More than bombs and bandages p.246), qualified for membership of the Australian Trained Nurses association June 1913.
